Hosszúhetény situated at the feet of Mecsek is a beloved place of those escaping from the city noise. Among the newcomers arriving from Pécs we find more and more intellectuals since 1990. In our film we follow the every day life of three families in order to identify those ideas  that helped them to redefine their future.

Self-sufficiency adopted by the families is a kind of identity politics. With the help of this strategy, the families are trying to revitalize an identity based on traditional values in the frame of an already modernized village. The representational practices employed during this process are ment to strengthen their identity.

This newly established identity cannot be regarded as a dynamic model, though. The adaptational technics of the families are limited. They do not strive to embrace the cultural tradition of the village, moreover, in many cases they are trying to propagate an examplary attitude as a model towards the village-dwellers.

The communication forms with the villagers are limited as well and are confined to their own community. Although, both groups became entangled with each other in certain activities in the past these events were motivated mainly by their identity politics (local market, dance house) and soon became exhausted.

We can find the same "fragmentation" inside their own group as well. Although self-sufficiency as a metanarrative is a major motivating element in their life, it shows a great diversity in its interpretation and is guided by personal characteristics (Christianity, panteism, permaculture...).
